This piece went through several phases before it was completed, each with a different concept in mind. The base was the circuitry and cloud planes. First, it was simply the two planes, with a strange, incorrect perspective applied, and some pointless photo effects. Scratched that, recreated the planes and set perspective seen in the final product. Then, it was to have a great city in the distance with columns of light shining from it. That didn't work... I couldn't draw it well enough and stock photos looked out of place. Scratched the idea. Next, it was simply bolts of lightning emitting from a point in the distance, swooping through the sky and hitting the ground in place near the "camera." Screwed up the lightning... plus it was plain and unoriginal. Finally, I got it into my head to show little paths of light following the circuits. I decided they were data packets, and made two collide, resulting the bolt derived from the previous version. Made my first Photoshop brush to texture the clouds, which turned out fairly decent, I believe. Throw in some post filters and level adjustments, and there you have it.

For those who don't know, "packets" are tiny pieces of data sent over a network (like the internet). Sometimes, these packets will "collide," causing data loss and general weirdness. Doesn't ACTUALLY make any kind of spark, of course...
